A three floor loft perched above the intersection of Connecticut Ave and 18th street NW (across the street from18th Street Lounge), the only bad thing about going to Midtown is finding parking! Arriving early to the neighborhood that’s very much a hub of DC nightlife is highly recommended.

A shifting LED backdrop sends a spectrum flashing across the entire wall, from bar, across VIP, to the DJ booth at the end of the room. To the left are bathrooms and a super VIP area which has a 5-6 step staircase leading to it. To the right is a dance floor, VIP on the bar side, a platform with poles for the venue’s adventurous female patrons, and third, semi-raised VIP section.
The third floor of Midtown, referred to as ‘The Loft’ has a DC sports bar feel. The DJ booth sits in the middle of the room with a solid dance floor. To the left sits a bar, tables, pool table and other bar games. To the right of the dance floor is a raised VIP section with a private bar and the perfect view of the crowded DC bar action in the streets below. Exposed brick and wood floors give the room an authentic industrial atmosphere.
The intimate Midtown Penthouse, located on the top floor of the building, features a serene, zen-like escape from the dance floor/sporting themed action below. With plush couches, candle light and a statue of Buddha guarding the floor, this area is a nice change of pace. ...Read more...

Phone 202-387-7654
Website www.policydc.com
Address 1904 14th st. NW
               Washington, DC 20009

OVERVIEW:

Policy opened its doors in 2009 in the revived U Street Corridor area, proclaiming a renovation in D.C. nightlife; no velvet ropes, no expensive bottle service minimums to keep you and your guests from relaxing in one of their lounge areas. Hence the name Policy, the restaurant/lounge stays true to its open door policy as long as you arrive early enough to grab a seat upstairs in the lounge or come early to enjoy eclectic specialty cocktails at the main bar, sample from the unique menu, or enjoy the second floor outdoor patio.
The décor is sleek and stylish accented with art by street artist Andrew Funk and Drew Nussbaum. The ceiling is a gleaming black, which frames the first floors bright red vinyl booths, and glittering chandeliers, which give Policy a trendy, upscale diner, feel. The upstairs lounge and marble and glass bar is punctuated with art graffiti and has a cozy, relaxed vibe and outdoor patio.
With an extensive list of specialty cocktails like the Pearfect Martini an interesting blend of Grey Goose Pear, Orchard Pear Cordial, St. Germaine, and Champagne, to the Lychee-Lemongrass Mojito a mix of Bacardi, fresh citrus, lychee, mint, lemongrass-cane syrup, and soda water, and even a selection of Absinthe which the bartender presents in a slow drip Absinthe fountain in a grand display on the bar or at your table.
Policy chef Brian Murphy serves small, yet flavorful, plates which are meant to be shared like the grilled hanger steak with Shiitake mushrooms, green beans, and edamame puree, and the Madras Curry Lamb sliders with Gorgonzola, and mint pesto. There is also a vast selection of vegetarian dishes for those who prefer to avoid meat.

P.O.V

Location 15th & F st.
Transportation Metro: Metro Center
Phone 202-661-2478
Website www.pointofviewdc.com
Address 515 15th st. NW
              Washington, DC 20002

OVERVIEW:

This rooftop bar is located on the 11th floor of the trendy W Washington, D.C. Hotel, holds only 104 people, and is accessed solely by an elevator. The hotel reserves some seats in the lounge for hotel guests and accepts reservations for all others, so if you're not staying here and want to make the P.O.V. scene, you really should call ahead for a spot. Otherwise, when the place is full, as it often is, you have to wait your turn down in the lobby, where another bar and party are on hand, by the way. It can be quite chaotic. The procedure and the wait are a turnoff for some, but many find it all worth it, once the elevator delivers them to the terrace and lounge. The big draw here is the unique view of the Washington Monument, the White House, Pennsylvania Avenue, and the Lincoln Memorial -- no other place in town serves it up in this kind of setting. Plunk yourself down on a couch, order up a Dark and Stormy (Gosling's rum and house-made ginger soda), and take it all in. ...Read more...

Ozio

Transportation Metro: Farragut North
Phone 202-822-6000
Website www.oziodc.com
Address 1813 M st. NW
               Washington, DC 20036

OVERVIEW:

From the outside, Ozio seems to be a small, seemingly regular bar/lounge. The beautiful, well-dressed, diverse crowd waiting to get in says otherwise. The first floor allows patrons the luxury of smoking at the bar, provides ample booth seating and features the bar tending expertise (and trickery) of Ozio’s owner. A walk-in humidor cements the suave appeal of the venue. It’s the calm before the storm above.
As patrons ascend a wide, wrapping staircase, they are met with the first of Ozio’s many splits. To the left is a high-end cigar bar with a menu consisting of Arturo Fuentes (incl. Opus X) , Ashtons, Cohibas, C.A.O.s, Macanudos, Monte Cristos, Romeo & Julietas and a host of others, including the Padron Anniversario. It’s a level frequented by diplomats, businesspeople and young professionals alike.
At the end of the bar and around a corner exists the first of many hidden lounges at Ozio. A descending staircase leads patrons into the 2nd row house, revealing exposed brick, artwork and spacious yet intimate couch settings. Should you hang a right when arriving at the second floor, you’ll find a dance floor, bar and DJ booth at the far end of the room, and a gateway to the rooftop above. This gateway, another of Ozio’s levels, features a large table area and a mini staircase leading to another low key, spacious lounge area.
The proper stamp allows party goers access to Washington DC’s newest rooftop bar. Encased in an ever changing spectrum of club lights, scattered trees and two bars, Ozio’s rooftop provides a completely different atmosphere to the bars and lounges below. Featuring house music and outdoor bottle service, the Ozio rooftop club is DC nightlife’s newest gem. Packed with an attractive and refreshingly unpretentious crowd, it’s a great place to spend your weekend hours. Moving across the roof you’ll be met with more of Ozio’s famous elegant lounge and VIP areas. They are inside but feature open air hallways to the roof. ...Read more...

Opera Ultra Lounge

Location I st @ Franklin Square
Transportation Metro: McPherson Square
Phone 202-489-1400
Website www.operadc.com
Address 1400 I st. NW
               Washington, DC 20005

OVERVIEW:

The murmurs were heard more than once during Opera Ultra Lounge's invite-only preview night. “I just came back from Vegas, and this place reminds me of those clubs,” said one patron to the bar staff. Another remarked, “This reminds me of the clubs in Miami and New York.”
And for good reason as D.C.’s newest posh nightclub features some of the finest details found in the swankiest hotspots in world-renown nightlife cities. Every detail of the club is absolutely stunning, from the buxom beauties serving drinks to top-of-the-line lighting and sound systems.
Located on I Street, steps away from the McPherson Square Metro, Opera truly has a “wow” factor as evident during the grand opening. Several guests who walked in did a quick look around at the venue’s décor and many were in awe of the brilliant lighting display, featuring beautiful fluorescent colors from all angles—the ceiling, floor, side panels—everywhere was radiating immense light.

The lighting comes courtesy of D.C.-native Michael Meacham of iDesign, who has created the ‘intelligent’ lighting found in clubs worldwide such as Liv, Mynt, Club Med, Crobar and Diesel. The architecture, equally stunning, is by lead designer Francois Frossard, whose work can be seen at such opulent Miami clubs like Opium, Set, Prive and Mansion.

But what’s a club without sound? Opera is now the first in D.C. to feature the 30,000-watt Funktion One sound system—recognized internationally by dance music aficionados as the purest sound system available in the market today. It’s the same setup found in clubs like Boom Boom Room and Cielo in New York, Liv and ArKadia in Miami, and Space in Ibiza. The sound is truly amazing; a pulsating bass hums through the crowd—evenly distributed across thee space, from the VIP lounges on the exterior circle of the club to the center of the circular dance floor.

These world-class elements were all brought together by managing partners John Alexiades, Mood Bacho, Alex Haje and Walid Zeytoun, a dream team of people behind some of the top nightclubs in New York and Miami, who now bring that expertise to D.C. with Opera.

It was an arduous two years to make their collective vision in to a reality. The space was first acquired in March 2009, formerly an underground storage facility next to the Metro. Getting the lighting, architecture and sound technicians all on board took time as well, and then there was the physical gutting of the space and installation of these elements.

“It was a lot of hard work, but we’re incredibly proud of how Opera turned out,” said Alexiades. “At Opera you’ll find the absolute best in service, atmosphere, sound and hospitality.”
